The spirit of our cartoons about the legal profession was captured by these memorable words attributed to that inimitable “simple country lawyer," the late United States Senator Sam J. Ervin Jr. of North Carolina, who achieved ever lasting fame and public gratitude for his chairmanship of the U. S. Senate’s Watergate Committee that investigated Richard Nixon.
An ounce of revealing humor
often has more power to reveal,
convince or ridicule than do
many tons of erudite argument.
